What resort to go for?

Post number 2...

Update on the layout - rubbish. Having done IT you would think that I'd get this sorted quickly... but I have neither the time nor motivation! So will be settling for a basic layout and fiddle with pictures when I get some in Whistler.

So why Whistler Blackcomb?

So I decided that I wanted to do a season. Obvious choices were that I could go to the Alps with plenty of French, Germany, Austrian etc resorts to choose from or I could go further away. America, Canada, New Zealand etc.

So choices were basically filtered by location, size, the ski-able terrain, pay, job and stuff to do off the slopes!

Location:  Didn't really bother me, although preference would be somewhere where English was mainly spoken as my language abilities aren't great!

Size/ski-able terrain/stuff to do off the slopes: So what did I want...a small resort with less to do, less tourist on the slopes however and more culture or a large one with more to do , busier slopes, and more diluted culture. I decided that I wanted a larger resort to get the most out of this first experience travelling.

Pay:  Going for experience not for the pay but more free stuff I get with the job the better!

Job: Right unfortunately in most of the European resorts you need to have many weeks ski experience... otherwise you get dumped with some of the less desirable jobs! This seems to be less strict in Canada and America as you only need to be able to ski back from work via the blue runs. However if I found the right location I'd be willing to work pretty much any job for it.

The ultimatum... Canada is amazing, Canadians are awesome, I'm a mountain biker and want to go out there in summer sometime...so why not go out before hand? It's different to the majority of European ski season workers. Whistler Blackcomb has massive amounts of ski-able terrain, with lots to do off the mountain. And there we have it... the decision was made!

The next step was trying to figure out how to get a job out there! And I'll write about that in the next post.

Laters!
