Getting the $$$$

Next step is finding a job now you have your CV. From the looks of it if you don't go through a scheme it can be tricky as to get a visa you need a job...but to get a job...not useful!

As I mentioned in the last post TWHC are a great help and part of their services that you pay for is the high possibility of getting a job from a resort and meeting them face to face. So after a chat with Andy from TWHC working out what I'm looking for from the experience and where I would like to go he sent some more information to me. Obviously Whistler Blackcomb shot out of my mouth as soon as he asked. After a slight mix up with someone else with the same name as me (who seems to be going to Silver Star) the next conversation was job focused. Along with Whistler Blackcomb and Silver Star the options include Big White, Banff, Nakiska and Fernie in Canada. The company also have connections in the USA with Park City - Utah, Sierra-At-Tahoe, Homewood and Alpine Meadows. Non-ski jobs take the form of working holidays to the UK for those that desire it.

So in the next conversation my skills and experience were . When talking to Andy it quickly turned out that the only jobs in Whistler Blackcomb that were left were in food and beverage. With the option of waiting, bussing, cashier or dish washing; I decided the cashier and bussing would be my choices. Although Andy did mention one Aussie dish washer that claimed he had never brought a meal!!! I wasn't sure to be impressed or weirded out.

The company then fly reps out from the various resorts to the various cities near where the applicants are to conduct interviews for the jobs a little time down the line. As i'm from the south east of England the obvious location was London. We had to go to the Novotel Hotel near St Pancra Station, inside I met Andy and Jules who made me feel comfortable before my meeting with the rep - Gifford. So pretty standard interview asking about my ski experience and my views on exceptional vs good customer service. After discussing my skills and experience it was decided that a rental tech role would be best for my primary role. On finishing the interview I was told to expect a response in two weeks. Luckily they obviously decided sooner than expected and within a week I had an offer! YES!

So I start work on the 5th November with induction on the 3rd... time to look at flights and stuff!!!
